Getting here
Elephant Plains Game Lodge is situated in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
GPS Coordinates: S24º44’38.9” E31º28’30.5”
Please take note that the lodge can only be reached through the Gowrie Gate and not through Newington or Shaws Gate. Due to river crossings it is also not possible to travel through the reserve. The last +/- 20km is a dirt road. Allow yourself at least 45 minutes from the end of the tar road to the lodge.

Directions
When making use of Google Maps, follow directions to Gowrie Gate and NOT Elephant Plains Game Lodge!
- Please be aware that although the route via Acornhoek is indicated as a tar road, the road surface is heavily degraded and potholes are prolific.
- Take the R40 towards White River / Nelspruit.
- After about 30km, turn left at the traffic light onto Canhuk Drive.
- Continue on this road for about 34km until you reach Hluvukani. The first 10km is a relatively well-maintained tar road, after which it becomes potholed, and this may affect your travel time.
- After exiting Hluvukani, you will see a sign indicating Sabi Sand Nature Reserve lodges. Turn right onto the gravel road as indicated by the sign.
- Keep following Sabi Sand signs and Google Maps until you reach Gowrie Gate.
- Once you have entered Gowrie Gate, turn right along the fence and follow Elephant Plains Game Lodge signs.
Please note that travelling times may be influenced by road conditions, especially during the rainy season (December to March). Add 2 hours of travelling time to compensate for any possible delays along the way.

- Take the R40 South towards White River / Hazyview / Bushbuckridge.
- Stay on the R40 until you reach Dwarsloop Mall (approximately 59km).
- Turn left onto Main Road towards Arthurstone / Thulamahashe.
- After about 24km, you will cross train tracks and turn left onto a gravel road towards Allandale / Athole.
- Keep following Google Maps directions to Gowrie Gate. You will pass through the villages of Allandale, Athole and Utha on gravel roads.
- Once you have entered Gowrie Gate, turn right along the fence and follow Elephant Plains Game Lodge signs.

By air
Daily scheduled flights take place between Johannesburg International Airport, Eastgate Airport (Hoedspruit) and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (Nelspruit). SA Airlink also has daily scheduled flights to Arathusa Safari Lodge, our neighbours. Privately chartered flights from Johannesburg, as well as any of the other nearby airports, can land on our gravel airstrip.
The airstrip is 1200m long, with a south to north approach and the following co-ordinates:

By road
Guests need to enter through Gowrie Gate, which is the only entrance gate into the northern section of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. You are welcome to drive yourselves, or make use of a variety of road transfer companies. Please use our map & directions. GPS directions can be misleading. The Gowrie Gate is open between 05:00AM and 23:00PM. Please contact our reservations office, should you require any assistance in this regard.
Arrivals and Departures
Please schedule your arrival between 12:00-14:00. This will ensure that you are in time for lunch, as well as the afternoon game drive. On the day of your departure, we would appreciate it if you could vacate your room by 11:00.
